Abstract

ABSTRACT

Film posters do not merely function as promotional media; they also operate as visual texts that condense a film’s identity, atmosphere, and values for prospective audiences. This study examines the construction of nostalgia in the Na Willa film poster through its visual elements. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis, covering denotation, connotation, and myth, supported by Svetlana Boym’s concept of nostalgia. The primary data consist of one Na Willa film poster, while supporting data were obtained through literature study. The analysis shows that nostalgia is not produced by a single visual element, but through the relationship among children and adults, a rural rice-field landscape, period-styled clothing, a warm color palette, collective movement, and decorative title typography. At the connotative level, these elements construct the past as a simple, familiar, nature-oriented, and communal space. At the level of myth, the poster constructs the past not merely as a historical period but as an idealized image of a life worth remembering. The findings indicate that nostalgia in film-poster design is produced through the selection and arrangement of visual signs that can shape the audience’s emotional expectations toward the film.
